Location: Tan-awan Oslob Cebu Philippines
The rates for 30 minutes interaction with the whalesharks are as follows:
Forigeners
Php 1500 diving
Php 1000 snorkelling
Php 500 watch from boat only
Locals (born in Philippines)
Php 600 diving
Php 500 snorkelling
Php 300 watch from boat only
Now this may seem a bit steep and I like many disagree with dual pricing when
the price is obviously inflated... apparantly the money goes towards marine
preservation and the locals.
If you start at Cebu City you can:
1/ Take the local ceres bus to Oslob from the south bus terminal aircon and
regular busses leave from 5am and the trip takes about 3 hours and cost Php160
If you are going direct to the whalesharks tell the driver to drop you off
in Tan Awan NOT Oslob
2/ Hire a cebu taxi price negotiable but should be around Php 800 to Php 1200
per vehicle (Max 4 passengers)
3/ Use a local private hire company in Cebu - this is good for groups as you
can get a minibus for Php 2000 each way sitting up to 15 people.
Oslob is the closest main village to the whalesharks but it is still 15km
away from Tan Awan where you need to be.
There are plenty trikes and bikes in Oslob that make the run between the two
places cost should be around Php 500 return including drop off at Tumalog
falls turn (see Tumalog falls below).
It is best to visit the whalesharks early in the morning so make any transport
arrangements the day before and take the drivers number! Most accommodation
can recommend reliable drivers
